Oren K. Erickson

Oren Erickson of Moorhead, MN passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. He was preceded in death by wife of 65 years Marian, parents John and Minnie, son Curtis, brothers Edwin, Wilmer and Dean.  Oren is survived by sons Timothy and Jeffrey; daughter Jill (Mark) Haugen, many dear grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Oren proudly served in the Navy as a Fireman on the USS LST 816 during World War II-Asiatic-Pacific Theater.  He later made a home for his family in Moorhead, MN where he worked for Robert Gibb and Sons for 35 years as a Master Plumber and foreman.  He loved spending time with family and friends during the summer at the family lake cabin that he built, he also spent time there in the winter ice fishing in the fish house he built.  He was an avid fisherman who really knew how to filet and fry fish to perfection. He enjoyed spending time gardening, growing vegetables, followed by canning tomatoes and salsa in the fall.  He was a craftsman and made many beautiful wood carvings. That is who he was. Whatever task he took on, he did it until he mastered it.  He could repair anything and was helpful with many projects at his adult children’s homes. Oren’s family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the Red River Valley Hospice team and the staff of Bird Terrace at Rosewood on Broadway for all of the compassionate care they provided to Oren, words cannot express our gratitude.  It gave Oren’s family great comfort knowing he was being cared for by all of you.  Service to be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead on Saturday, May 8, at 1:00 p.m. Memorials welcomed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
