Orin E. Swanson

Orin E. Swanson, age 89, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, in MeritCare Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.Orin E. Swanson was born on January 3, 1920 to parents Odin and Gilla Sabby Swanson on a farm near Wimbledon, ND. He attended school in Griggs County, ND. As a young boy he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. and worked in Idaho building roads and bridges. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Southwest Pacific. He served from February 1942 to December 11, 1945. He returned to the Wimbledon area and helped on the family farm until he moved to Moorhead, MN and worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. On June 19, 1954 he married Helen Jorgenson in Moorhead, MN. In August 1975 he retired due to a back injury, after 22 years of service. He entered a nursing home in September 2004. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Swanson of Moorhead, MN; two sons, Daniel Tammy, Moorhead, MN, David Diane, Willmar, MN; one brother, Alvin Swanson, Wimbledon, ND; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Doris Anderson, Gertrude Carpenter and Edna Hunter and one brother, Clarence Swanson.
