Oscar A. Nelson

Oscar A. Nelson, 93, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead, MN.

Oscar Anton Nelson Jr. was born in Perley, MN, on May 23, 1927 to Oscar and Ida (Hovland) Nelson. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Borup, MN.

He was inducted into the Army in 1951 and served as a “Light Truck Driver” driving Generals, Colonels, and other military personnel around the bases. He also worked in construction during his time and was honorably discharged in 1957 and took over the family farm in Georgetown, MN.

In March of 1971, Oscar married Grace Johnson and they later moved to Fargo, ND, before settling in Moorhead. Grace passed away on July 27, 2017. Oscar and Grace enjoyed the farm and spending time with family

Oscar is survived by his sister, Pernell Jones, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Norman Nelson, Arthur Nelson and James Nelson and sisters, Nora Nelson, Loraine Potratz and Alice Erickson.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Eventide for the care provided these past years.

In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 PM in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

The visitation will continue Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND.
