Patricia Jean Walton

Patricia (Patty) Jean Walton, 56, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 2^nd, after a three-year battle with cancer, at Sanford Hospice House Fargo with her family by her side.  Patty was born in March 1967 to Roland and Laura Friezen.

Patty was raised near Cathay, ND and graduated from Sykeston High School in 1985.  Patty attended the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND where she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education.  She taught at St. Vincent’s School in Mott, ND, prior to starting her full-time career with the Army Reserve, and later the National Guard.  In 1992, she married Robert (Bob) Walton.  They had two children, Andrew and Melanie. 

In 1999, Patty and her family moved to Fargo where she joined the 119^th Wing of the Air National Guard.  She retired in 2022 as a Master Sergeant after 34 years of service including a deployment to the United Arab Emirates.  She took incredible pride in her military service. 

Patty’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was a kind and loving woman who will be greatly missed.

Patty is survived by her husband, Bob; her children, Andrew (Kristen) Walton and Melanie (Adam) Johnson; her grandchildren, Everett Johnson and Adaline Walton; mother, Laura Friezen; siblings, Timothy (Lori) Friezen, Thomas (Della) Friezen, Kenneth Friezen, Kathryn (Robert) Hoffert, Daniel (Erin) Friezen, and Jonathan (Rosemary) Friezen, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Patty is preceded in death by her father, Roland Friezen.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., with visitation for one hour before the service, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  The service will be livestreamed on Patty’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com.  Interment will be at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND on Tuesday, August 8^th at 12:00 P.M.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roger Maris Cancer Center.
