Patrick E. Benedict, 76, Sabin, MN, died on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in an accident near Wolverton, MN.Patrick Edwin Benedict was born on December 10, 1933, in Fargo, ND, to Edwin and Peggy McCormick Benedict. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School, where he distinguished himself in wrestling, in 1951. He attended Moorhead State College and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until 1956. Pat married Frances Reis on March 3, 1957 in Greenfield, Iowa and they made their home at Sabin, MN, where he farmed. In 1973, he was one of the founding members of American Crystal Sugar Coop. He helped found the Golden Growers, formerly Northern Corn Processors and served on the board of the NRI Neurological Research Institute. He was actively involved on many community boards. Pat loved farming and he could generally be found looking at fields when he wasn't golfing.Pat is survived by his wife, Frances, Sabin, MN; five sons, Michael Roberta Benedict, Sabin, MN, Kurt Benedict, Sabin, MN, David Susan M. Benedict, Sabin, MN, Blane Susan C. Benedict, Luke Amy Benedict, Barnesville; two daughters, Stephanie Jon Walter, Roseau, MN, and Lisa Scott Mann, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Sandra Jim Feeney, Jupiter, FL, and Margaret Rod Liberati, Phoenix, AZ; twenty-four grandchildren; his mother, Peggy Benedict, Lake Park, MN; He was preceded in death by his father, and a daughter, Katie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Sabin.
