Paul Nicholas Breyer, 88, of Lake Park, MN, died Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Golden Manor Assisted Living, Detroit Lakes, MN. Paul was born in Fargo, ND, on June 4, 1927, to Ernest and Loretta Felion Breyer. He married Donna Mae Loomis in 1950 and graduated from North Dakota Agricultural College in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering. He started work with North American Aeronautical Research as an airframe stress analyst in Downey, CA, during the days of the race for supersonic aircraft flight. Thereafter, he designed petrochemical building structures, commercial and industrial buildings throughout Colorado and its surrounding states. In 1973, Mr. Breyer opened and managed a consulting engineering office in Fargo until 1990. He was divorced in 1976 and partially retired in 1996, contracting winter month design work in GA, SC, and WV.
In all his engineering work, Mr. Breyer thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of his design challenges and the lasting friendships established with his co-workers.
In his youth, Mr. Breyer enjoyed hunting in North Dakota and fishing in Minnesota. He fully retired in 2000 to his home on Lake Ida, Lake Park, MN.
Paul is survived by three sons, Dennis of Stillwater, MN, Steven of Frontier, ND, Douglas of Cedar Rapids, IA; sister, Janice Miller of New Hope, MN; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Flynn of Colorado Springs, CO, and Diane Nenninger of Varna, IL.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, December 18, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial mass at 10:00 a.m., in St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Interment will be at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Cemetery.
