Pearl Pederson Kihn went to join her heavenly family on May 3, 2015. Pearl was the daughter of Henry and Annie Pederson, and eldest sibling to twins Earl Pederson and Evelyn Anderson, and sister Darlene Hemness.
Pearl was born on June 3, 1928 in the rural Hawley, MN area. Before marriage, Pearl worked in a shirt factory in Virginia, MN, and a cookie factory in the Manchester Building in Fargo, ND. She married Harlan Kihn on April 4, 1959. Soon after their eldest son Gary was born, followed quickly by Brian. Over the next several years there were three miscarriages. Then a girl named Michelle. The family thought they were complete but God had other plans. When Pearl was 44 their youngest, Annette, was born.
Pearl’s work history included temporary jobs as a Nurses Aid at Viking Manor in Ulen, MN, and at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Lake Park, MN. These temporary jobs “just to help out with Christmas” ended up being a twenty plus year career.
Over the years Pearl excelled at guilting her family into piling into the car to go see extended family “one last time” several times. She enjoyed family, flowers, embroidery, word search books, and her grandchildren. One of her greatest regrets was not convincing her daughters to try for just one more child – an elusive granddaughter. She settled for four cherished grandsons and several grand puppies.
Pearl is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harlan, Detroit Lakes, MN; son Brian, Cormorant, MN; daughter Michelle Steve Gjerdevig, Wahpeton, ND; daughter Annette Tim Mahler, Cormorant, MN; grandchildren Nathan Molly Mahler, Austin and girlfriend Hannah Thomssen Mahler, Alec & Logan Gjerdevig; a great-grandchild due any day, and her beloved nephews and nieces.
