Sometimes healing does not mean a cure will occur, but rather suffering will come to rest. Peter Alden Holte went home to be with Jesus at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family on October 3, 2019 after battling brain cancer. After a series of seizures, Peter was diagnosed with a high-grade glioblastoma on March 13, 2019 while at his home in Arizona. Although his battle was short, he still shared his beautiful smile and twinkle in his eye with everyone around him. As communicating became more difficult, his friends and family enjoyed quiet moments of just being together, sharing the love of a life lived well. We are so very blessed to have been given this man to teach us all so much. Even near the end of Pete’s life, he was teaching and preparing us to support each other, love each other, and to go on because life must go on despite heartaches.
Peter was born to Ames and Ardyce (Evje) Holte on January 12, 1943 in Halstad, Minnesota. He graduated from high school in Halstad and went on to receive a degree from Brown Technical Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Peter then began a career as an Installer-Repairman in Moorhead in 1966. He held various positions for the phone company until becoming a Construction Supervisor and retiring in 1990. After retirement, Peter enjoyed time working in the field on the family farm until beginning his second career working as a truck driver for Titan Machinery. In 2015 he retired from Titan and then continued working on the family farm. Farming was one of Pete’s passions in life. No matter what Peter was doing he gave it his all and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Peter enjoyed hunting in Western North Dakota with his son, grandsons, and good friends; ice fishing trips to Lake of the Woods, and spending time at the lakes with his family. Peter also enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports, music and their many other activities. Peter loved sports and if his grandkids weren’t playing you could find him either at a Red Hawks game, watching Bison Basketball or at a Bison Football game to which he was not only a hometown supporter but would travel great distances to watch the “green and gold” play. He especially enjoyed the road trips to Frisco! He also enjoyed traveling to his home in Arizona to see friends and catch up over a game of golf or a cup of coffee.
Peter is survived by his four children, Amber (Joel) Hanson, Bret (Tracy) Holte, Chantel (Anthony) Carter, Denette (Bill) Narum; eight grandchildren, Jayden Hanson, Alexis (Jeff) Schmidt, Brady (Dani) Holte, Cody (Mandy) Holte, Zavier, and Anya Carter, Sydne and Peter Narum; three great grandchildren, Ames, Henry and Gunnar; mother, Ardyce Holte; brother, Gregg (Pam) Holte; sister, Susan (Bruce) Aalgaard; sisters-in-law, Rennitta (Gene) Okerlund and Lynda Caldis; fiancé, Karen Pitsenbarger; and many nieces and nephews.
Peter is proceeded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Sue Holte; dad, Ames Holte; and infant child.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Hospice of the Red River Valley and Comfort Keepers for their patience, guidance, and care.
A Visitation will be held at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead on Monday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. A celebration of life is planned for Peter on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead at 2:00 P.M. with a visitation one-hour prior.
