Phillip R. Brown, 70, of Vergas, MN, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at Essentia Hospital, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Phillip Robert Brown of Loon Lake, Minnesota, passed away on May 23, 2016.

Phil was born in Dallas, Texas July 17, 1945 to Robert and Darlene Gillaspie Brown. His family moved to Wyoming where he spent the next 12 years. He then moved to Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High in 1963. He attended NDSU and in 1967 graduated with a business degree and as an officer in the ROTC program. In 1967 he met and married the love of his life, Jan Marie Knudson. They moved to California where Phil served in the Air Force as liaison with the aerospace program. His son, Paul David, was born in 1968 and his daughter, Tracy Marie, in 1969. While serving in the Air Force, he completed his MBA at Cal State Long Beach in 1971. After completing his military service he moved back to Fargo to be close to family and to pursue his interest in insurance and financial investments. He was known as a well-respected, trusted and knowledgeable business man. Phil had an adventurous spirit and a sense of fun. Phil loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, flowers, babies, living at the lakes, bird watching, reading, history, baseball, his dogs, music, and family.

Phil is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jan, his mother Darlene, his brother Lon Brown, his sister Nancy Morry Travis, his children Paul Cerise Brown and Tracy Jay Krog, his 5 grandchildren, Seth Lisa Brown, Fenn Brown, Sabrie Brown, Dawson Krog, and Olivia Krog, and his 2 great-grandchildren Rory and Callum Brown.

Phil was preceded in death by his father, Robert, his father-in-law Darrell, mother-in-law Lorine, and granddaughter Arianne.

Honorary pallbearers are his 5 grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred to Homeward Animal Shelter, Fargo.

Visitation will be at 10 AM, service at 11 AM, followed by a luncheon, Thursday, May 26 at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN.
