Phyllis J. (Gilderhus; Aaker) Sinkler, 92, of West Fargo ND, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021. The youngest of Carl and Eina Aaker’s nine children, she was born December 10, 1928, at the family farm near Hatton, ND. She spent her school years in Arvilla and Larimore, ND, graduated from Larimore High School, and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Following college, Phyllis taught in Inkster, ND, and married R.S. Dick Gilderhus in 1949. Child-rearing years were spent in Larimore, Cooperstown, Lisbon, and Fargo ND, and Minneapolis and Moorhead, MN. Church was an important part of her life; Phyllis held a number of offices in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead, including serving on the Church Council. Phyllis loved her years working in retail between 1975 and 1998. Phyllis and Dick divorced in 1984. In December 1998, Phyllis married Roger Sinkler of Moorhead. Over twenty years together, they enjoyed winter months in Gold Canyon, AZ, and summers at their lake home near Detroit Lakes, MN. Roger passed away in November 2018, and Phyllis moved to Sheyenne Crossings in 2020. She will be dearly missed.
Phyllis is survived by her four children, Jan (Jon) Morris of Shalimar, FL, Jadene (Mark) Weber of Casselton, ND, Terri (Ray) Anthony Remler of Minneapolis, MN, Keith Gilderhus of St. Augustine, FL; six grandchildren, Hilary (Justin) Fox, Jordan (Jen) Wear, Dana (Demetrius Matthews) Torborg, Lauren (Al) Balda, Paige Anthony, and Nina Gilderhus; 4 great-grandchildren, Celeste, Bentley and Hendrix Wear, and Matthew Balda; nieces, nephews, former sons- and daughters-in-law; and her extended Sinkler family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Sinkler; former husband, Dick Gilderhus; son, Barry Gilderhus; parents, Carl and Eina Aaker; siblings, Erick, Carl “Solly”, Ruth, Robert, and Daniel Aaker, Caroline Meldahl, Marion Pagel and Bernice Haller.
A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND.
