Phyllis Scilley (nee Snell) was Born on October 21, 1931, to Rev. Walter & Florence (Matthews) Snell in Granite City Illinois. Spending much of her growing years in Illinois, the family made their way to North Dakota, and she graduated from College High School in Valley City in 1949. She went to work at Northwest Bell where she met and married Allen Scilley in November of 1952. In the late 50’s, with 3 young boys in tow, the family settled in the railroad village of Dilworth MN and stayed until after Allen’s death in 2014. After their kids left the nest, Al and Phyllis threw themselves into volunteer work for many years preparing free tax returns for seniors and disadvantaged ones. She was recognized by the Points Of Light organization, established by George Bush, for her spirit and work to make a difference in the community.
Phyllis lived out her final years under the wonderful care of the staff at Eventide on 8th Street, and Ethos Hospice. She loved to cook big meals for family gatherings and visiting with friends and strangers alike. Her smile and “tell-it-like-it-is” humor will be truly missed. We are certain she will be a part of what God has planned for our future.
