Ragna "Red" Evenson, 84, formerly of 414 Elmwood Ave. S., Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Elim Care Center, surrounded by her family. Ragna Melvor was born on October 1, 1920, on the Grondahl farm in rural Maddock, Benson County, ND, to Alf and Mari Sagrusten Melvor. She grew up on the farm, attending area schools and graduating from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in 1938. Ragna was united in marriage to Annil H. Bratvold on August 7, 1943. Annil was killed in action in June of 1944. Ragna graduated from Interstate Business College of Fargo in 1945. She worked for the Harry Lashkowitz law firm as a legal secretary for several years. Ragna was united in marriage to Marcus G. Evenson on July 23, 1949, in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fargo. With the birth of their first daughter, Ragna became a homemaker until the children had grown. Before retiring in 1984, she was a cook at St. Luke's / MeritCare for several years. Ragna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, music, coffee and cookies, and talking on the phone. Ragna is survived by her husband, Marcus; her two daughters, Mary Steve Knowlton, Troy, MI; Sharon Mitch Ruud, Fargo, ND; her son, David Evenson and his wife, Beverly Bohn, Fargo, ND; her granddaughters, Lindsay Knowlton, Jessica and Kristen Ruud. She is also survived by two sisters, Borghild Aanderud, Hillsboro, ND; and Alvhild Jimmie Olson, Minnewaukan, ND; and eight nieces and nephews. Ragna was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Annil, and her sister, Astrid Kalin. Memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the RRV and Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
