Raymond D. Johnson

Raymond D. Johnson, age 86, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.

Raymond Duane Johnson was born on May 9, 1933 to Ferdinand and Edna (Herman) Johnson at their home in Buxton, ND. Ray attended school until the 8^th grade when he started working on the family farm. In 1954, he entered into the Army and soon married the love of his life, Patricia Daily on October 17, 1954 in Grand Forks, ND. Ray was honorably discharged from the Army in 1956 and together the family moved to West Fargo. While living in West Fargo, Ray received his mechanic certification and began working for United Electric in Fargo. In 1970, the family moved to a farm in rural Lake Park where Ray continued to work at United Electric and hobby farm while Patricia raised dogs. Ray retired in the early 1990’s but continued to busy himself with mechanical work. In September of 2006, Ray and Patricia moved to Detroit Lakes and Patricia passed away in February 2007. Ray continued to live at home and enjoyed fixing everything he could for his friends and neighbors until he moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home in July 2019.

Ray spent most of his time tinkering or fixing machines. He could fix or improve anything from cars to dryers to Barbie Jeeps. Ray had a sarcastic sense of humor and loved to joke. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Ray is survived by his son, Daniel (Lynae) Johnson; daughter, Robin Groom; and grandchildren, Christopher Groom, Ariana Groom, Samuel Johnson, and Shelby Johnson.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; and all of his brother and sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 2:00 P.M., with a visitation starting at 1:00 P.M., at Cormorant Lutheran Church, Cormorant, MN. Burial will take place at Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery.
