Raymond E. Jacobsen, 93, Park Rapids, MN, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Raymond was born on November 4, 1923, on the family farm near Moorhead. He grew up and attended rural school there. Ray married Mavis Gilbery on June 29, 1947 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. He was the manager of the Farmers Union Oil in Moorhead until he started farming near Moorhead in 1953, he also ran a cabinet shop and construction business from the farm. In 1977 they purchased a resort on Little Sand lake near Park Rapids, which they operated in the summers.
Ray had been a member of the North Dakota Farm Managers Association, and served as president. He served on the Clay County Watershed Board for 30 years, and was once awarded Minnesota Farmer of the Year. He was also a member of C-400 and the NDSU President’s Club.
Ray played baseball in the forties with the Fargo-Moorhead Twins, and played softball in a Hawley League until he was 45 years old. He bowled league bowling with the North Dakota Grain Dealers, and the Kragnes Elevator. He built the first home he and Mavis had, a new log home in Park Rapids, and built many garages and Quonsets. He even moved the Parsonage from Trinity in Moorhead to acreage near the Krabbenhoft house at Sabin.
While he had many talents, he loved horses and Raymond felt that his greatest accomplishment in life was training and showing Larigo Shetland ponies in six horse hitch. He drove hitch wagons that he built himself in many parades, driving two horse, four horse and six horse hitches.
Ray is survived by his wife, Mavis, Park Rapids, MN; son Bob, Audubon, MN; daughter Linda Delmon Fuglie, Ortonville, MN; brothers Marvin Jean Jacobsen, Dilworth, MN, and Wayne Jacobsen, Moorhead, MN; sisters Marlys Jim Winter, Moorhead, MN, and Carol Floyd Emerson, Dilworth, MN, Gladys Loren Wignes, Moorhead, MN; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark; two sisters Cathaleen Koenig and Darlene Anderson; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 1, 2016, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
The funeral will be on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
