Raymond H. “Moon” Stempf

Raymond H. “Moon” Stempf, 90, Glyndon, MN, died on Monday, September 1, 2014, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Raymond H. Stempf was born on March 14, 1924, in Glyndon, MN, to Lawrence and Mary Beckman Stempf. He grew up and attended school there before entering the U.S. Army and serving in Europe during WWII, driving a supply truck with the Red Ball Express. He was discharged from his Army service in January of 1946. He went to work for American Crystal Sugar Company, and then Rusco Window Company. In 1964, he bought Valley Window and Siding Company in Moorhead, which he owned and operated for many years. Ray married Ardythe Mechum on April 14, 1950; she died on November 26, 2013.

Raymond enjoyed traveling and spending time at his lake homes on Lake Eunice and later, Lake Lida. He loved fishing. Ray adored his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, and cherished the times he had with them. He was a very sociable person and liked to be at coffee in the mornings at the Glyndon Community Center. Later in life, he enjoyed weekly trips to the Shooting Star Casino.

Raymond is survived by his children, Pam Mike Gruchalla, Fargo, ND, Jeff Stempf, Moorhead, MN, Shelly Wright, Moorhead, MN, and Steve Stempf, Indiana, PA; grandchildren Beau Tonya Matson, Lake Park, MN, Mindy John Sackrider, Batavia, OH, Shannon Wright, Mapleton, ND; and great-grandchildren, Dakota, Cole and Gage Matson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardythe; siblings, Art Stempf, Ceil Slosser, Ethel Haley, Florence Huesman, and Chickie Dague; and grandson, Shawn Wright.
Visitation: Friday, September 5, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral in the church.

Funeral: Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN.
