Richard “Dick” W. Erickson, 82, of Dilworth, MN, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Richard William Erickson was born May 31, 1934, in Hawley, MN, to Oscar and Mary Krogh Erickson. He obtained his education in Hawley and in 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1957. After his time in the service, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
On October 7, 1961, Dickie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Holien, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead. They made their home in Hawley, but moved to Moorhead in late 1967, and later to Dilworth, in 2005.
Over the years, Dickie was employed by Johnson Well Drilling, Held Beef Industries, Midwest Motor Express, Supervalu, and Magnum. He was primarily an over-the-road truck driver, and he retired from Magnum in 1998.
Dickie loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, and especially spending time with his family. He was truly a good friend to all who needed a friend, and he will be remembered for all his kindness towards his neighbors.
Dickie is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol; his children, Chandra Erickson, Bloomington, MN; Craig Natalie Erickson, Helena, MT, Cara Jeremy Goldman, Hayward, WI, and Valerie Larsen-Lohr, of San Antonio, TX; his sister, Dorothy Tangen, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Carol Olson and Frances “Betty” Jagol.
