Richard Duane Hardy, age 79, from Gwinner, ND, passed away Monday, March 13, 2018, at the home of his son, Trent and daughter in-law, Julie, of Fargo, ND.
Richard was born on January 21, 1939, in Webster, SD, to Arne and Tina (Strand) Hardy. He is the second oldest of five children, and his siblings are Lloyd, Pete, Doris, and Sandy. He grew up on the family farm just west of Roslyn, SD. Richard graduated from Roslyn High School in 1957. He excelled in Basketball and Track. He married his high school sweetheart, Annette Willis, on November 4, 1961. They celebrated 56 years of marriage last year. They have three children, Trudi (Doug), Trent (Julie), and Ryan (Shelly). Richard has 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Richard and Annette owned Rich’s Bar in Roslyn, SD for many years. He also worked for Huggett Construction and owned a trucking company before switching gears to the grain elevator business. He got his start at GTA in Webster, SD. He moved his family in 1976 to Gwinner, ND. Richard was the manager of Gwinner Famers Elevator until his and Annette’s retirement in 2001.
Richard and Annette retired to their home on Clear Lake, SD. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, having a cup of coffee with his neighbors, word search puzzles, the occasional trip to Las Vegas, the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Twins, sharing a meal of bullheads at Buffalo Lake with his family, and going for drives admiring the farm land.
He is survived by his wife Annette (Willis) Hardy, of Gwinner, ND; daughter, Trudi (Doug) Christensen, of Gwinner, ND; son, Trent (Julie) Hardy, of Fargo, ND; son, Ryan (Shelly) Hardy, of Aberdeen, SD; 9 grandhildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Lloyd (Jeanine) Hardy, Pete (Marlys) Hardy, Doris Gutzmer and Sandra (Ken) Berger.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his grandson, Cody, and aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018, at 10:30 A.M., at Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church in Gwinner, ND. Lunch will be served after the service.
