Richard “Rick” Guptill

Richard “Rick” Guptill, age 65, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, after a long 4-year battle with cancer and complications from pneumonia.

Richard D. Guptill was born on November 11, 1954 at Fort Riley, Kansas to Harold Jr. and Gloria (Hanson) Guptill. Rick lived in several places while growing up including Kansas, Colorado, and Germany because his father was in the military. When Herold Jr. was discharged from the military, this Guptill family moved to Proctor, MN in 1968 and Rick graduated from Proctor High School in 1973. Rick went into the military following graduation for a short time but received medical discharge for health issues. Rick married Katie Olson on September 9, 1994 in Fargo, ND and they made their home in Moorhead.

Rick’s lifelong passion was music. He worked as a sound engineer for many years and was able to tour with many bands. At the time of his passing, he had his own booking agency, Big Buffalo Entertainment.

Rick is survived by his wife of 26 years, Katie Guptill; children, Justin and Heather; sister, Cindy (Tom) Lodermeier; his furry buddy, Treble; and many aunts, uncles, friends, and extended family. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gloria Guptill.

Rick’s family would like to extend their gratitude to nurses and staff at Essentia Health, especially Dr. Tadeu Ambrose, and the kindness and care from the infusion center and oncology department staff.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 1:00 P.M., with a visitation starting one hour before, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead. Masks are required. A live stream of the service will be available at 1:00 P.M. on Rick’s page at www.wrightfuneral.com.
