Richard Hovet

Richard J. Hovet, age 83, of Moorhead, MN died in Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND on Monday, November 18, 2013.
Richard Hovet was born December 27, 1929, in County of Traill, Buxton, ND. He was one of seven children born to Jacob and Laura Eken Hovet. The family lived in Buxton, ND where Richard graduated from Buxton High School. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND.
Richard taught school in Grand Forks, ND and was Principal at Lincoln, Horace Mann and Mark Twain Elementary Schools, Iowa City, IA retiring from that position.
Richard was proud of being a Fighting Sioux and followed the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1959.
Richard is survived by his son Donald Cindy, Iowa City, IA; daughter Kathryn, Iowa City, IA; a twin sister Ruby, Medford, OR; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who loved him.
Preceding Richard in death were his wife, Elaine 2002; daughter Laura; his parents; two brothers, Orlin and Glenn Hovet; sisters, Phyllis Ruckreigle, Margaret Rohman, and LaVerne Murch.
Dick’s memorial service and celebration of resurrection of faith will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 North Johnson Street, Iowa City, IA on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Memorials for Richard should be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, Iowa City, IA.
