Richard James “Dick” Hanson

Richard “Dick” James Hanson, 77, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND. Dick was born June 11, 1940 to Llyal and Mildred (Eaton) Hanson in Fergus Falls, MN.

Dick graduated from Hillcrest Academy in 1958 and then attended North Dakota State School of Science and Moorhead State University.

Dick joined the National Guard in 1963, serving as a flight line mechanic, he was honorably discharged in 1965. After his service in the military, he worked various jobs in the lending industry, including; Associates Finance, Dakota Bank, and Clay County State Bank. In 1995, he became a Journeyman for the Plumbers Pipe Fitters Union, retiring in 2002. He was united in marriage on August 11, 2000 to Joanne Hannestad in Moorhead, MN.

Dick enjoyed stock car racing and was President of the Red River Racing Association. He was a member of the Plumbers, Pipefitters Union Local 300, and the Moorhead American Legion.

Dick is survived by his wife, Joanne; brother, Robert (Gloria) Hanson; sisters, Elizabeth (Dale) Fretland and Jeanne (William) Pahan; stepchildren, Pamela (Marvin) Knapper and Brent (Lisa) Hannestad; step-grandchildren, Danae and Derek Knapper, and Kian Hannestad. He is preceded in death by his parents, Llyal and Mildred; brother, Llyal.

A funeral service will be held at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND, following the services in Moorhead.
