Robert A. ’Bob’ Fogel

Robert "Bob" was born December 22, 1953 in Fargo, ND to Willard and Eleanor Fogel. He grew up in Moorhead and attended public schools. While in high school Bob was very interested in photography, taking many of the pictures for the 1969, 1970, and 1971 yearbooks. He also had a simmer job working for the Parks Department checking for Dutch Elm Disease. Upon graduating from Moorhead High, Bob attended MSUM and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Forestry. He returned to Moorhead and became the city's first Forester in 1977. Also in 1977 he was united in marriage to Debra Nelson of Moorhead. In 1985 he began directing park maintenance and was made parks director in 1993. Since 2003, Bob had been supervising compliance with environmental regulation, rolling out new rules for storm water and wastewater management, a job he continued from his home office when he was no longer able to go in to work. Bob was diagnosed with ALS in January of 2005. He was deeply grateful and humbled by the help and support shown him by his friends and co-workers at the city of Moorhead. He is survived by his wife, Debra; a son James and a daughter Caroline, both of Moorhead; step-mother, Dorothy; brother, Curt Linda of Jamestown; and sister Barbara Norm Wallace of Coon Rapids.
