Robert Bitzer, 88, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, in his home under the care of family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Robert was born January 22, 1923, to Frank and Myrtle Hoffard Bitzer, in Cincinnati, OH, where he grew up and attended school. He later served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 – 1945. Robert was stationed for a time at Clinton Air Base in Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma he met Laura Wann and they were married on December 8, 1943, in Cheyenne, OK. Together they had four children. They lived in Cincinnati for a few years before moving to Madison, MS, where they lived for over 50 years. Robert owned and operated Hillcrest Poultry Farm for several years before retiring. He then enjoyed his time working for the IATSE International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees where he had the opportunity to work with the creation of many movies, sitcoms, and concert productions.Robert enjoyed woodworking, building bird houses, and kept busy with projects for others, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. They moved to Moorhead in 2005 to live with Gary and Sally Bitzer. Robert is survived by his wife, Laura; son, Gary Sally Bitzer, Moorhead; daughters, Beverly Tom Stuart, Louisiana, Susan Bill Presley, Mississippi; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beryl; 8 brothers; and 5 sisters.
