Robert “Bob” Sullivan, 70, of Fargo, ND, died Sunday, December 16, 2018, in his home, under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Robert Joseph Sullivan was born December 11, 1948, in Crookston, MN, to Pete and Violet (Raaen) Sullivan. In 1956 the family moved to Thief River Falls, MN. Bob attended St. Bernard’s School for grades 1-8 and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967. He went back to school in 1990 and graduated from Moorhead State University in 1994 with a degree in social work. He worked as a social worker for 8 years, working with youth dealing with drug and alcohol problems. He then went to work as a deputy for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years, retiring in January 2014.
On May 19, 2001, Bob was united in marriage to Margaret Folden and they made their home In Fargo.
Bob loved to spend time with his family, especially his wife, Marg. They loved to camp at Lake Bemidji State Park and go for short walks. Bob enjoyed going to Minnesota Twins games and Gopher hockey games and Marg loved him enough to humor him and tag along. Bob and Marg both enjoyed going to plays. Bob also enjoyed riding bike.
Bob believed strongly in AA and credits the program for helping him stay sober for 31 years. His favorite quote was “Mightier is he that conquers himself than he who conquers a city.”
In Bob’s own words: “I wish you all the best in the rest of your lives. See you on the other side, Baby Doll.”
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret, Fargo; his mother, Violet Sullivan, Thief River Falls; his brothers, Denny (Darlene) Sullivan, Thief River Falls, Danny (Julie) Sullivan, Moorhead, Pete (Nancy) Sullivan Jr., Bemidji, MN, and Terry (Robbie) Sullivan, Nashwauk, MN; his step-sons, Michael Horn, Fargo, Terry (Kimberlie) Horn, Sioux Falls, SD, and Brian (Jean) Horn, Moorhead; 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; his nephew, Matthew Sullivan, and Marg’s son, Scotty.
In lieu of flowers, Bob requested donations to be sent in care of the parents of his great- niece, Everly. Erin and Brody Peterson are her parents and their address is 3793 S. 19th St. Grand Forks, ND 58201. Donations will be used for Everly’s needs, as a result of the MMIH syndrome that she has.
