Robert Burdick

April 11, 1952 — October 21, 2017

Robert “Bob” Burdick, 65, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo.

Bob was born April 11, 1952, in Devils Lake, ND, to Gordon and Jeannette Burdick. He grew up in the Minnewauken area with his family and 2 sisters and 1 brother. Upon graduating from Minnewauken he joined the US Army, where he served for six years stationed much of the time in Germany. Upon returning, he worked at several jobs, usually as a carpenter.

He married Deborah Bassen in 1988 and together they had 2 sons, Marcus and Jon. They lived in Jamestown for a time before moving to Ypsilanti in 1992. While in “Ypsi” Bob was active in the community club. For some years he helped put on a haunted house for the community youngsters for Halloween. He also played “Santa” at Christmas and delivered gifts to the community youth. With his beard and great laugh he made a wonderful Santa! A talented man with carpentry, he added on to their home in Ypsi. He was also known to be an avid cribbage and pool player!

In 2012 he lost a leg, but he didn’t lose his spirit. He was then sharing his home with his son Marcus and family in Montpelier where he made several improvements to his trailer. When Marcus moved to Moorhead, failing health forced him to move in with his son Jon and family where he resided until now.

His pride and joy were his family and especially his five granddaughters who affectionately called him “Papa”.

An avid reader, he was knowledgeable in many subjects and wasn’t shy about giving you his opinion. A deeply devout man, he read many books on religion as well as his mother’s Bible.

He is survived by his sons Marcus (Tianne) of Moorhead, and Jon (Melissa) of Jamestown; 5 granddaughters, Zalea and Zoey of Moorhead, and Lylah, Harper, and Harlee of Jamestown. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathy (Ralph) Moos of Aberdeen, SD and Judy (Tom) Brosz of Bismarck, and one brother, Bill (Bonita) of Devils Lake, his special nephew Josh Moos of Jamestown plus several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Jeannette, an infant brother, Mark, and niece, Alicia.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Jamestown Vets Club on Saturday, November 4th from 3-6P.M. All are welcome to come and share pictures, stories, and memories of Bob.
