Saturday, October 19, 1935 Robert Edgar entered this world as the first born son of Robert L. and Nora (Gulseth) Cobb in Alexandria Minnesota. He was baptized at the First English Church in Alexandria and confirmed in the Christian faith at Breckenridge Lutheran Church.
As a child Bob moved with his family from Alexandria to Willmar in 1942 where his father was employed with the Great Northern Railroad. The family then moved to the Breckenridge, MN area in 1945, where they made their home in rural Christine, ND. It was there that Bob and Frank would walk across an open field together to get to the school in Christine. In 1947, the family moved into Breckenridge where Bob grew up and graduated with the class of 1955 from Breckenridge High School. During his high school years Bob participated in football, basketball and track where he ran in the relays, did the high jump and broad jump. Bob was a State Track Meet participant.
He joined the Fargo Air National Guard while a student at Concordia College in Moorhead. After a year at Concordia Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for four years in active duty transferring to Naval reserve in August of 1960 until retiring in October 1993. With an honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob enrolled in the University of Minnesota Moorhead where he earned his teaching degree in art and industrial arts. While in college he also participated in track events earning intercollegiate medals in high jump as well as broad jump. During the summer months Bob worked for the National Forest Service manning a fire tower lookout in Montana along with fighting forest fires. He enjoyed his time in nature, whether it was fishing, sailing or taking photos of beautiful sunsets or wildlife.
Following the completion of his education Bob’s first teaching job was in Haver, Montana. In 1966 Bob joined the teaching staff at Fargo North High school where not only did he teach art and industrial arts, but was a track coach as well. He retired from the classroom in 1995 after 30 years of teaching, but continued to be actively involved in the community and church. Art was his passion throughout his lifetime and he drew, designed and made many projects using various mediums. Sharing his God given talents and interests with others, especially his students and grandchildren was a joy for Bob.
On March 25 of 1989, Bob married Dorothy Schmidt. They made their home in Moorhead and enjoyed 28 years together traveling and enjoying the arts. When their health began to fail they made their home at Eventide Senior Living in Moorhead in 2016. Both were kind and caring and always enjoyed time with their families and friends.
