Robert F. Lewis, 87, of Hawley, MN, died May 27, 2021, at Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Robert Frederick Lewis was born May 18, 1934 to Fred and Esther (Anderson) Lewis in Moorhead. He grew up in Dilworth where he was an All Star basketball and baseball player. Bob graduated from Dilworth High School in 1952. He pitched for many teams and played in an All Star game with Roger Maris against the FM Twins. He also played on the Dilworth Diesel basketball team that went undefeated.
Bob spent 12 months in Korea, with guard duty on the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and he was a pitcher on the 4th Cavalry Division baseball team.
Bob married Pat Moen March 14, 1959 in Moorhead. They made their home in Dilworth where they had two sons, James and John. The family moved to Hawley in 1963 and they raised Arabian horses.
Bob retired from the railroad in 1996, having spent 44 years as a locomotive engineer. Bob was an avid bow hunter and fisherman. He loved to teach his grandkids how to fish and liked to watch them in their sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son James and brothers Alfred and William (wife Pat). He is survived by his son, John Lewis, Hawley, and grandchildren Lindsey, Riley, Peyton and Emerson.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Hawley Lutheran Church, with visitation for one hour before the service. The service will be livestreamed at www.wrightfuneral.com beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Hawley Cemetery.
