Robert Larry Burnside, 66, passed away comfortably at home on Saturday, April 8th, 2017, with the love of his life at his side.
Robert Lawrence Burnside was born August 24th, 1950, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Juanita and Gordon Burnside. They later moved to Hawley, MN where they grew as a loving family. He attended school throughout his childhood years in Hawley, MN and joined the United States Marine Corp shortly after. Robert enlisted with the First Battalion, Eleventh Marines and served in Vietnam from ’69 to ’71. He was honorably discharged in July of 1975.
Robert had several jobs in the construction field before starting his career at the VA Medical Center where he retired after 23 years. He also enjoyed running his own business Burnside Taxidermy for 25 years where he got to preserve some of the world’s most beautiful creatures.
In August of 1971, Robert married the love of his life, Cynthia Iverson and in 1976 they gave birth to their first son, Tony Burnside. Travis Burnside was born a year later in 1977, and in 1983, Casey Burnside was born which completed their family. They raised their grateful family in Moorhead, MN until 2001 when they built their dream home on Big Sugarbush Lake near Callaway, MN. Robert was so proud of his sons, their accomplishments and the grandsons they gave him.
Robert enjoyed the lake and all the friends he had in the area. He also was very passionate about fishing and all his critters he fed throughout the years there. He was known to walk into any room and brighten spirits of those around him.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Cynthia Cindy; his two sons, Tony Burnside and Casey Alicia Burnside; grandsons, Austin, Hunter, Fisher, Remington, and Traverse; brothers, Gordon Bun Burnside, and Jeff Thompson as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Gordon; step-mother, Bertha Burnside; Brother, Charles Burnside; and his son, Travis Burnside.
Memorial Visitation: Monday, April 17, from 5:00PM-7:00PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM at Wright Funeral Home, 404 Leonard St., Hawley, MN.
Memorial Service: Tuesday, April 18, at 11:00AM at Beautiful Savior’s Lutheran Church 23115 Co Hwy 14, Callaway, MN 56521.
Burial: Tuesday, April 18, at Hawley Cemetery following services.
Larry always wanted to leave this world saying, “See, I told you I was sick.”
