Robert Nyquist, 89, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
Robert “Bob” Nyquist was born June 2, 1933, in Kansas City, KS to Walter and Pearl (Weidmann) Nyquist. As a child, Bob moved to rural Moorhead where his parents farmed. Bob attended elementary school at Rustad-Clearview and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1951. In 1956 Bob married JoAnn Jacobsen, and they had two children, Mark and Mary.
Bob was a lifetime farmer, working alongside his father, son, and grandsons. Bob was the first one to arrive at the field, and the last one to leave. Bob helped grow the operation to what it is today by always taking the time to help and teach. Bob never let the weather wreck his day, instead, he displayed true grit in those wet and windy springs, dry summers, and muddy harvests. Aside from farming, Bob served on the Moorhead School Board, the Board of Red River Valley Co-op Electric, American Bank & Trust, and American Crystal Sugar Board.
Hunting was another passion of Bob’s, taking him from Africa to the Yukon, and many places in between. Whether taking home a moose, bear, mountain lion or elk, just to name a few, or admiring wildlife exist through his binoculars, Bob loved being in out in the open country. Flying his plane and sipping a Hendricks martini were other joys he held.
Bob is survived by his wife, JoAnn; son Mark, of Moorhead; daughter Mary, of Pelican Rapids; four grandchildren; Micheal, Morgan, Katie, and Nicholas; and great-grand daughter Nora. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Andrew.
Bob’s helping hand, words of wisdom, and happy demeanor will be greatly missed.
