Robert S. “Bob” Scheidecker, 89, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 in his home surrounded by family.
Bob was born June 11, 1931 at Rush Lake Township, MN, to Robert and Gertrude (Weis) Scheidecker. He attended school at District 121 and St. Henry’s Catholic School, Perham, MN.
Bob was united in marriage to Jeanette Walz on October 9, 1951 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Bluffton, MN. Bob began his career in the retail lumber business in 1952 and worked at lumber yards in Perham, MN, Little Falls, MN, and Wadena, MN. In 1961, he became manager of Peavey Lumber Co. in Ada, MN. He also managed lumber yards in Moorhead, MN, and ended his career as manager of UBC in Hawley, MN.
Bob and Jeanette retired to their lake home on Lake 15 near Rollag, MN, where they lived for 23 years. After retirement, Bob became restless and worked part-time at the Cormorant Store for 10 ½ years. In 2007, Bob and Jeanette left the lake to take up residence in Riversquare II Apartments in south Fargo. Bob’s love for people kept him busy helping those in need and he, once again, went back to a part-time job at Fargo’s K-Mart for another few years.
Bob was active in his church and served in many capacities. He did volunteer work, was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, worked for the Diocese of Crookston as a speaker and promoter of the Sacrificial Giving program, taught Religion Education classes, was active in the Cursillo movement, and served as a lector. Bob loved to dance, ice fish and going camping with his children. His garden was also a pride and joy. He enjoyed traveling and the highlight of his travels was a private audience with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican on February 7, 2002.
Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years; 5 sons, Roger (Terri), Mount Morris, IL, Randall (Gina), Glyndon, MN, Ronald (Cynthia), Madison, OH, James (Wendy), Byron, IL, and Robert (Kim), Fargo, ND; 6 daughters, Karol (Ken) Fredrickson, St. Cloud, MN, Joan (Howard) Hoven, Buffalo, MN, Renee (L.
