Rodney Wiecks, 74, Dilworth, MN, died Friday, January 1, 2016 in his home, under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Rodney Wiecks was born November 10, 1941, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Harry and Hazel Goeman Wiecks. He grew up in Lake Park, MN, graduating from high school in 1959. He enrolled in the United States Air Force, serving in the U.S. and Korea, from 1959 to 1963. After completing his duties with the Air Force, he began working as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service.
During his first marriage, Rod had one child, Timothy. On March 1, 1989, Rod married Betty Masseth and for 20 years they made their home on Lake Ida in Minnesota. They later moved to Dilworth for the summers and to Mesa, AZ for the winters.
Rod loved spending time at the lake, and his favorite activities there included pontooning, fishing, and cooking on the barbeque. He enjoyed his pet birds, and he loved and hated the Minnesota Vikings. Rod was known to enjoy a good happy hour, and he loved to travel. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Betty Masseth; his son, Timothy Jana Wiecks; his step-children, Sheila Delacruz, Mel Kathy Masseth, Lavina Jeff Reed, Germaine Steve Bratcher, Pete Lynette Masseth, Arlene Mike Cappela, and Kelly Miriam Masseth; 13, grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Stuart and Gregory, and his sister, Harriet.
