Roger L. Bartness

Roger Luverne Bartness, 88, of Williston, North Dakota passed away at the Bethel Home February 25th, 2015 with his family by his side.

Roger was born to Alma and Tilman Bartness, May 27, 1926, in Parshall,
North Dakota. He was raised in Hitterdal, Minnesota graduating from high school in1943.
Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the US Navy and served in Pacific Theater of Operations as a Radioman 3rd class aboard the USS Braxton APA-138 during World War II. His ship was the first transport to land occupational troops in Japan and had on board as they headed stateside, the one millionth service man to be brought back to the US under the demobilization plan.

Roger graduated from North Dakota State School of Science in 1952 with a trade school
diploma in Drafting and Estimating. He was hired in 1952 by Amerada Petroleum Corporation in Williston, North Dakota where he worked as a draftsman for 34 years.

In 1954 he married Patricia Jensen in Dilworth, Minnesota and they made their home in Williston.

Roger is survived by his wife, Patricia of Williston, his daughter, Lynn Kennelly Rick Grewe of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and their 3 children: HeatherLowell Evans, Liam Kennelly, and Ashley Johnson; stepmother Beverly Bartness; brothers Larry Anna Bartness, Gary Bartness and sister Mary Kay Jerome Reimche.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Donald Bartness and Terry Bartness and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Lewis Bartness.

Roger was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was
a member of the DAV, VFW, American Legion and B.P.O.E.

His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Crosses gathering space in Wright Funeral Home.
