Roger L. Hegland

Roger Leonard Hegland, age 75, of Moorhead, MN and Scottsdale, AZ, died Friday, January 1, 2010.Roger was born on November 16, 1934 to Myrtle and Leonard Hegland and grew up on the farm north of Moorhead. He graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College Campus High School. On September 5, 1953 he married Shirley Melby. Together they spent their lives farming. Roger received the Outstanding Farmer Award of Clay County.After retiring from farming, Roger was active in the business community. He served on the boards of American Bank and Trust, Red River Valley Sugar Beet Growers Association, was a committee member of ASCS and served as Treasurer for Trinity Lutheran Church.He enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives and was always gracious and generous with people stopping by and always extended a hand to those in need. He also liked golfing, walking, singing, cooking and spending time in Arizona and Hawaii. His singing voice was one in a million; his CDs will live on forever.He is survived by three children, Michael Hegland of Scottsdale, AZ, Kathy Hegland of Moorhead, MN and Rebecca Jerome Soloway of Hempstead, NY; five grandchildren, Emily Christensen, Elizabeth Palmer, Cassandra Palmer, Genevieve Kris Angle and Gareth Soloway; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Katherine Angle and all his loving relatives and friends.The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Heartland Community Church, 1751 Main Avenue East, West Fargo, ND 58078.
