Roland Howard Enkers

Roland Howard Enkers, 94, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, in his home in Moorhead.

Roland was born on July 11, 1928, to Edwin and June (Ward) Enkers in Rosholt, SD. He grew up in Rosholt, attending and graduating from Rosholt High School. He enlisted with the United States Navy in 1946, serving his country until his discharge in 1948. After his service, he began farming on the family farm with his parents. For a time, he began as a roofer for Howard Roofing in Fergus Falls, MN, before beginning his career with Great Northern Railroad as a fireman, working his way up to an engineer. He was introduced to Phyllis Anderson by her brother, Tom, while working with the railroad. They were united in marriage on September 26, 1953. While working for the railroad, Roland purchased 80 acres of land near Wolverton, MN, where he farmed on the side.

Roland was a member of the Elks Lodge 260, Sons of Norway, Eagles, and Moose Lodge, all of Fargo, ND. He was also a member of the Breckenridge VFW and American Legion Post No. 53 of Breckenridge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening; hunting deer until the age of 90.

Roland is survived by his children, Donna Davis, Deb Enkers, Terri (Tony) Ammon, and Steven Enkers; grandchildren, Kent (Chrystal) Davis, Nicholas Davis, Tyler Ammon, and Nicole Ammon; 1 great-granddaughter; brother, Dale Enkers; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis; daughter, Cindy Enkers; parents, Edwin and June; brother, Duane Enkers; and sister, Ardyce Schulstad.

Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 12, 2022, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available on Roland’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Wounded Warrior Project.
