Ronald A. Guttormson

March 25, 1939 — December 26, 2013

Ronald A. Guttormson, 74, of Borup, MN, passed away at home on Thursday, December 26, 2013. Ronnie was born March 25, 1939 in Fargo, ND, to Elmer and Mabel Ringstad Guttormson. He grew up on the family farm near Georgetown, MN, and attended school at Middleton Country School and Hendrum Public School before graduating from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. Ronnie then continued his education at Moorhead State University while farming with his father and brother, Roger prior to farming on his own. He served in the Air National Guard. On August 15, 1959, Ronnie married LeeAnn Sivertson at Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley, MN. Together they lived and farmed in the Perley, Georgetown, Felton and Borup communities. He retired from farming in 2001. LeeAnn and Ronnie spent ten winters traveling and trap shooting in Las Vegas, NV, and Phoenix and Tucson AZ, where they met many new friends.

Ronnie enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and trap shooting. Over the years he mentored and instructed many through his involvement with the Red River Valley Sportsman’s Club at Perley, MN, Moorhead Rod & Gun Club and Clay County 4-H. He was a proud and humble person who enjoyed doing things for others, not wanting to be publically recognized.

Ronnie is survived by four children: Kellee Dan Johnk, Sabin, MN, Dean Sue Guttormson, Moorhead, Chad Guttormson, West Fargo, ND, and Kari Chris Borgmann, Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren, Karra Travis Sunde, Kamron Johnk, and Kadin Johnk, all of Sabin, David Jeanie Mathisen, Moorhead, Kurt Guttormson, Moorhead, Shelbi Guttormson, Moorhead, and Reece and Sidney Borgmann, Detroit Lakes; three great-grandchildren, Hallie and Harper Sunde, Lucas Mathisen; sister, Karen Dittberner, St. Joseph, MN; brother, Terry Judy Guttormson, Hendrum; brother-in-law, Duane Durr, Fargo; sister-in-law, Lois Buz Ziegler of Georgetown, MN; aunts-in-law, Evie Gilbertson, Ada, MN, Marjorie Kroshus, Fargo, and Irene Ingham, Santa Barbara, CA. Ronnie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, LeeAnn; granddaughter, Krista Johnk; parents, Elmer and Mabel Guttormson; brother, Roger Guttormson; father and mother-in-law, Sverre and Olive Sivertson; brother-in-law, Anthony DeMario; sister-in-law, Margaret Cleveland Durr; and nephews, Edward and Michael DeMario.

Memorials are preferred to the Red River Valley Sportsman’s Club in Perley or the Outdoor Adventures Foundation of Fargo which is a non-profit foundation providing hunting and fishing adventures for children and young adults under the age of 25 with cancer or other life threatening illness, also providing adventures for combat disabled veterans under the age of 40 that are wheelchair bound or missing a limb due to active duty service.

Visitation: Monday, December 30, 2013, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral: Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton, MN.
Interment: Winchester Cemetery, Borup, MN.
