Ronald Eugene Helgeson

Ronald Eugene Helgeson, 78, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020, at Bethany on 42^nd in Fargo, ND.

Ron was born July 20, 1942, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Gilford and Nettie (Erickson) Helgeson.  He grew up in Ashby, MN and graduated from Ashby High School in 1960. After high school he began working at the VA Hospital in Fargo and then joined the ND Air National Guard where he served from 1963 to 1969.  Ron worked as an orderly at the VA Hospital for 35 years, retiring on September 21, 1995.  He enjoyed his time at the VA and was a well-respected caregiver to all the families he served over the years.

Ron was an avid and enthusiastic sports fan and he especially loved the Minnesota Gophers. You could set your clock by the time he went to the Moorhead Fry’n Pan every day and he was well-loved by all the waitresses there.  Ron always loved a good home-cooked meal, which he frequently enjoyed with his sister-in-law, Donna, and her family.  He loved spending time with family, and even though he never had children, he always treated his nieces and nephew as if they were his own.

Ron is survived by his sister-in-law, Donna Helgeson, Hawley, MN; nieces Beverly Schmidt (Bob Jobgen), Moorhead, and Deborah (Dutch) Lemke, Moorhead, and nephew Richard (Theresa) Helgeson, Pierre, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Helgeson.
