Roy E. Jefferson, 91, Fargo, ND, died on Friday, July 20, 2012, in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Roy was born in Moorhead, MN, on January 5, 1921. He graduated from Moorhead High School. He was an Eagle Scout. He attended Minnesota State University Moorhead, North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, and Interstate Business College, Fargo. He served in the Army in WWII in New Guinea, Peleleliu, and the Philippine Islands; he was awarded the Gold Star. Roy married Leola J. Swanson on March 8, 1947, in the First Presbyterian Church, Moorhead, MN. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, both Fargo. He was a life member as well as a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He was a life member and past Commander of the Moorhead American Legion Post 21 and a past Chef de Gare of the Clay County 40 et 8 Voiture 1516. He was also a life member of the VFW and the DAV. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, AARP and FM Philetelic Society. Roy is survived by his wife, Leola, Fargo, ND; son Barry Karen, Eagan, MN; granddaughter, Kristin Joe Pontrelli, and great-grandchildren, Elaina and Lucia, Eagan, MN; daughter, Susan Renaud, Boston, MA; sister, Dorothy Storandt, Moorhead; several nephews and a niece. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley, or the Humane Society.
