Roy G. Nolte

Roy Gustav Nolte was born on December 9th, 1922, to Fred and Ada Nolte in Martin County Minnesota, the 3rd of four children. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from Fairmont, Minnesota High School in 1940. In 1942, he enlisted in the Minnesota State Guard and was stationed in Duluth, guarding the ore docks. He later enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was commissioned in 1945 as a 2nd Lt., got his wings and flew B-25s. He was proud to be one of 36 first cousins to serve during the war. He was discharged in 1946. During the war he married Mary Jane Jordan in South Carolina and was blessed with three children, Gary (Cynthia), Phillip (Lucinda) and Joann (Steven) Christensen. He later married Rosanna Hansen and gained a daughter, Charlene; Dennis (Vonnie) and Debra (Jeff Avelsgaard) Anderson followed. The family moved to Moorhead in 1962 and he worked at various sales jobs until finding his passion at Concordia College. He was active in the American Legion and served as commander at both Fairmont and Moorhead posts. He played in the State Legion Band at the conference in Hawaii. He was ordained in 1988. In 1989, he married Ann Ronsberg (Odegard) and added four more children, Donna (Joe) Herlihy, Mary Jo (Larry) Lund, Jean (Cliff) Close and Keith Ronsberg. They were involved in several ministries in the Community. They served dinner and had bible studies in their home for years; they served on the Board of the Cornerstone Coffee House for ten years, along with doing Sunday morning church services at the Moorhead Manor Retirement Home for 12 years; they shared music programs around several nursing homes throughout the year along with special Christmas services. He loved to fix things and was active after retirement at Triumph Lutheran Brethren up until his death.

Roy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ann; his children, 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Helen Nolte; and 4 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erwin and Earl; sister, Pauline; sister-in-law, Ethel, brother-in-law, Harold Wilson; sons-in-law, Daniel Vasquez, Dennis Ziemer; Ann’s son, Keith Ronsberg; and great-grandson, Ellis Anderson.

Memorials may be given to Triumph Lutheran Brethren Building Maintenance Fund.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 14, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.

Funeral service will be Friday, October 15, at 11:00 a.m., in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead.

Interment will be at Fargo National Cemetery.
