Roy H. Messerschmidt

Roy H. Messerschmidt, age 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on January 2, 2013, at Sanford’s Palliative Care Unit in Fargo. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

He was born on July 14th, 1931 to Edward and Clara Messerschmidt in Glyndon Minnesota. Following his schooling in Glyndon he began active duty with the Marines in 1952 and was discharged in 1954 but continued in the Marine Reserves until 1960.

Roy Married Margaret Kerlin on June 11, 1955 until her death in 1987. He was united in Marriage to Wiletta Brown on June 22, 1989. Roy affectionately called Wiletta his “April Fools Girl”.

Following his discharge from the Marine Corp, Roy worked short term for Kost Bros. at the Downer, MN block plant and then began at John Morrell Meats in Fargo, ND in 1955 until his retirement in 1989.

Roy is survived by his wife Wiletta, 3 sons, Len Nancy Anoka, MN, Rock Brenda Fargo, ND, Steve Annette Little Falls, MN; a daughter Robin Matson Cory Floberg Dilworth, MN; and stepson David Brown Yvonne Roberta, GA. Also surviving Roy are 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren along with his brothers Loren, Gordon and Robert and his sister Clarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Clara, brothers Edward and George and his first wife Margaret.

Roy was a life member of the VFW and American Legion.
Visitation: Monday, January 7, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Funeral: Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at 10:00 A.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
