Roy M. Jorgenson, 86, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at his home.
Roy Marvin Jorgenson was born on October 18, 1929 to Hjalmer Rudolph “H.R.” and Hilda Strandlien Jorgenson in Fargo, ND. He grew up and worked on the family farm while attending school in Hawley, MN. He was confirmed at Hawley Lutheran church by Pastor S.G. Hauge.
Roy met Delores Sandal at a Basket Social in 1947 and they married on December 11, 1949. They moved to San Diego, CA for a short time before moving back to Hawley and raising their seven children on the farm they purchased.
Roy worked for Ames Sand and Gravel and American Crystal driving truck before taking a full-time position with Ames where he worked for 30 years. Later, he drove school bus for the Hawley school district for 10 years.
When Roy retired he could often be found in the woods cutting firewood or on the lawnmower cutting grass, but he especially enjoyed tending to their garden.
Roy’s real passion, however, was volunteering. He loved to serve others and the Lord, which he did as a member of the Eventide board at both Lysne and Hawley Lutheran Church and was a current Charter Member at Living Grace Lutheran. Roy was also the President of the Hawley Senior Center and the recipient of the Clay County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award. He was a great neighbor, friend and Christian and will be missed by many.
Roy is survived by his wife, Delores; sons, Ralph Jorgenson, Wayne JoAnn Jorgenson, David Lynette Jorgenson, Richard Nancy Jorgenson, Bryon Beth Jorgenson; daughters, Annette Cederberg and Marie Bob Schultz; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beatrice Siegel and Helen Evert; two granddaughters, a great-grandson, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law.
