Ruby Evangeline Haug Erickson was born April 24, 1916 in rural Rollag, Minnesota, to Carsten and Selma Mattson Haug. She grew up in the Rollag area on her parents farm, was baptized and confirmed at Rollag Lutheran Church, and attended rural school in the area. On December 28, 1935, Ruby was united in marriage to Clifford Erickson at Hawley, Minnesota. For many years, they lived and farmed the Erickson family farm near Cormorant. They were active members of Cormorant Lutheran Church. Ruby had a deep love for music, and instilled that in her children, and encouraged others to participate in music. In 1963, Clifford and Ruby built a new home just south of the farm. Following that move, they owned and operated the Lakes Drive Inn near their home for several years. Ruby was well known by the customers for her excellent lefsa and baked beans. Ruby also worked a number of years at the lefsa factory in Lake Park, and St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. In May of 1998, Ruby and Clifford moved to the Hawley Manor Assisted Living. Clifford passed away in February 1999. Ruby remained at the Manor after his death until March 2008, when she moved to Sunnyside Care Center, near Lake Park, MN. Ruby passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Sunnyside Care Center at the age of 92. Ruby is survived by her children: DeWayne Gail Erickson, Cormorant, MN, Roger Adelle Erickson, Brainerd, MN, Wendell Marge Erickson, Spicer, MN, and Ramona Keith Kuehl, Hawley, MN; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clifford; her parents; a brother, Delphin Haug; and a sister, Verna Anderson.
