Ruby Lucille Mitten was born September 21, 1920 to Roy and Gertie Stenehjem Mitten, on the Mitten homestead, 26 miles south of Alexander, ND. She attended Pleasant View country school, and later graduated from high school in Sydney, MT. She then went to Dickenson College and received her 2 year teaching degree in 1941. Ruby married Lavern "Vern" Lang on January 10, 1942 at Wibaux, MT. She taught at Cartwright and Pleasant View one room schools until Vern returned from military duty in the Pacific Islands. They lived in Williston, ND for 1 ý years where their son was born. Vern then entered the Railway Mail Clerk Service and they moved to Moorhead in 1947. Ruby started at the Sears Catalog Store in 1968 and worked there until her retirement in 1977. Ruby helped with the first organized circles at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school, joined quilting club and was active in Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. They enjoyed their summers on Big Cormorant Lake. Ruby enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed hand work, needle point, cross stitch, crocheting and knitting. She was an avid reader and loved to play cards like bridge and Pinochle.Ruby is survived by her son, Scott Kay of Bismarck; daughters, Kelly Jack Borgen of Moorhead, Sandy Steve Muchow of Audubon; grandchildren, Jeff Ronda Lang, Chad Courtney Lang, Jodi Borgen; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Grace Lang. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Kari Borgen; five sisters; and one brother.In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
