Rubye Olson

Rubye Olson, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 12, 2018, at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN, after a heartbreaking journey of dementia.

She was born July 16, 1927, in rural Hawley, MN to Roy and Inez Peterson.  She attended school in rural Hawley, MN.  On January 12, 1945, she married Stanley Olson.  They moved to Moorhead, and later to Fargo, where they raised their six children.  Rubye enjoyed entertaining and was known for her baking and cooking skills.  On any given Saturday night, Rubye and Stanley could be found on the dance floor as they were exceptional dancers.  Rubye was most proud of her six children, her eight grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Rubye was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Fargo, and enjoyed participating in the Women’s Circle.  She worked part-time for St. Luke’s Hospital and was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

The family would like to say thank you to the Eventide nursing staff for always treating Rubye with kindness and dignity, to the Eventide Grill staff for bringing her coffee and visiting with her, and to the Eventide custodial staff for always greeting her with a smile.

Rubye will be dearly missed and will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.  She is survived by her children, Loyall (Linda) Olson, Surprise, AZ, Gayle (Vern) Burns, Surprise, AZ, Cheryl (Blake) English, Fargo, ND, Janel (Dan) Gust, Mapleton, ND, Jerry (Kathy) Olson, Christine, ND, Jim Olson, Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Lebeda, Hawley, MN and several nieces and nephews.  Rubye was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Olson; parents, Roy and Inez Peterson; brother, Leroy and sister, Orpha.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
