Russell M. Boen

Russell M Boen of Moorhead, MN passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Sandford Medical Center. Russell was born on March 26, 1933 to Carl and Helen (Helm) Boen on the family farm in Norman County. Following school, Russell worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Korean War on the USS Rochester Company 55-645. He received his first and only tattoo in Hong Kong. After returning to the area, Russell married his first wife, Darlene Ries January 2, 1960. After the passing of Darlene, he later married Judy Ann Rossow on June 1, 1968 in rural Claire City, SD. Together they had two sons, Daniel and Justin. Russell and Judy made their home in Moorhead, where they raised their sons in the home Russell resided in until his passing. Over the years, Russell worked as a Journeyman Electrician in the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) – local 1426 for 45 years. After retiring, Russell spent time as a security guard at American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, and was a proud member of the VFW Post 1223 and the American Legion Post 21.

Russell purchased a lot on Turtle Lake in 1968, where he built their cabin with his own two hands in 1973. He loved being at the lake watching everyone have fun and enjoyed having a couple beers! He also enjoyed spending time at the “clubs” visiting with his buddies, he was proud of his 2 sons, he loved hunting and fishing with his sons, and his pride and joy were his grandchildren. His eyes would light up when whenever he saw them. He will be remembered for his laugh, kind heart and compassion for his family and friends.

Russell is survived by his two sons; Daniel Boen, Justin (Susan) Boen; two granddaughters Jaden and Abbygale; grandson, Jordan Feigert; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Darlene and Judy; brothers, Harvey and Ardel; and brother-in-law, Jeff Rossow.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 4, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Interment will be at Moorhead Memorial Gardens
