Russell V. Tweten, 82, passed away on Friday morning, October 6, 2017 at his home near Appleton. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 9, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, October 10, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00, at the Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Glyndon, Minnesota. Zniewski Funeral Home of Appleton is in charge of the arrangements.
Russell Vernon Tweten was born on January 12, 1935, in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of George and Otillie Fuchs Tweten. He was baptized and confirmed at the Glyndon Congregational Church in Glyndon, Minnesota. He grew up in Glyndon, Minnesota and graduated from Glyndon High School. On December 22, 1956, Russell was united in marriage to Jean Carol Birkeland. Together they were able to share in over 60 years of marriage. Russell was a grain and potato farmer in Glyndon MN. He also had livestock in the early years of farming. In addition, Russell enjoyed owning and operating trucks. In 1984 Russ and Jean moved to Appleton, MN to farm with his sons. He was involved with the Glyndon Rod and Gun Club, helping with gun safety and setting up the Rod and Gun Club at Turtle Lake. Russ enjoyed snowmobiling. In later years he loved taking his young grandkids out for rides. Russ loved fishing, and going for drives on Sunday afternoon. He was known to tell Jean to pack a bag as they were going on a trip. He loved watching any kind of sports. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Of course, no meal passed without a healthy serving of potatoes.
Russell is survived by his wife Jean of Appleton; his daughters Diane Alyn Sylte of Benson, and Vicki Mark Landseidel of Charlotte, North Carolina, his sons, Greg Kathy Tweten of Benson, Anthony Tweten of Appleton, and Bruce Tweten of Glyndon; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Tweten, David Tweten, Dana Chris Krajnik, and Jack fiancé Julie Hernandez Landseidel; 1 great grandchild, James Krajnik; his brothers George Tweten, Don Nora Tweten, and Roy Marie Tweten; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Otillie, a sister in law Mary Tweten, nephews Brian Tweten and Tim Tweten, and a niece Judy Tweten.
