Ruth E. Malakowsky

Ruth E. Malakowsky, age 98, of Hitterdal, MN, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, in Cozy Country Living, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Ruth Elvira Lofgren was born on August 26, 1912 to Gust and Sarah Walstrom Lofgren in rural Hitterdal, MN. She grew up and attended school in Hitterdal, graduating as Valedictorian in 1931. On July 31, 1932 she married William J. "Bill" Meyer Jr. in Lake Park, MN. Together they had three children, Gene, Allen and Kay. Ruth worked on the family farm, at the Hawley Bankrupt Store, the Hawley Creamery and spent much of her career working as the Hitterdal school secretary. Bill died in 1968. On September 17, 1977 she married Ben Malakowsky. Ben died in 1985.Ruth enjoyed bowling, watching sporting events, specifically the Minnesota Twins and any Hitterdal sporting event. In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed playing basketball.Blessed be the memory of Ruth Elvira Malakowsky. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and remembered for her caring and passionate loving nature.Left to cherish her memory are sons, Gene Ruth Meyer of Lake Park, MN, Keith Peggy Malakowsky of Moorhead, MN; daughter, Kay Keith Larson of Hawley, MN; daughter-in-law, Joyce Meyer of Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Allen; husbands, Bill and Ben; seven brothers, Roy, Lloyd, Vernon, Ralph, George, Vandal and Leo and five sisters, Agnes, Anna, Ella, Emma and Marlene.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
