Ruth E. Mathews

Ruth E. Mathews, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Ruth Kreps was born on April 16, 1930, on the family farm south of Dilworth, MN, to Lloyd E. and Golda (Hainline) Kreps.  She attended rural school at Clearview School and graduated from the Moorhead State Campus School.  She later graduated from Interstate Business College.  She worked at Moorhead State Teacher’s College for a time until her marriage.

Ruth married Ross Mathews on August 19, 1950, in Moorhead at the First Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Moorhead where she and her husband owned and operated Mathews Electric throughout their life.

Ruth loved family and friends and cherished her role as grandmother. She was an avid golfer, loved to spend her winters in Florida and enjoyed going to their lake home in the summers. Ruth looked forward to any activity with her family, especially if it included shopping with her grandchildren or a competitive game of smear or mini golf!

Ruth is survived by her husband, Ross Mathews, Moorhead, MN; daughters Rae (Lynn) Halmrast, Moorhead, MN, Sheri (Paul) Hohncke, Fergus Falls, MN, and Rita Miller, Moorhead, MN; brothers Fred Kreps, Fargo, ND, and James (Carol Jean) Kreps, Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren and twelve (almost thirteen) great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Sunday, November 12, 2017, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM, with a prayer service at 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead

Funeral: Monday, November 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Moorhead, with visitation one hour before.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
