Ruth J. Engelstad

Ruth Jeanette Rygg Engelstad was born on April 24, 1915 in Moorhead, MN to Rasmus and Jennie Nelson Rygg. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1933. Following graduation from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1937, she taught school for six years.
Ruth married Norton Engelstad on June 28, 1944 at Trinity in Moorhead. Norton was a Lutheran pastor and served churches in MI, ND, SD, and MN. Following his death in 1969, Ruth returned to Moorhead, where she joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was an active member for many years.
Ruth is survived by her children, Stephen Gayle Engelstad, Kenosha, WI, Ruth Thomas Stavenger, Brighton, MI, and Miriam John Myett, Belgrade, MT; brother, Les Norma Rygg of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Esther Sandberg, Catherine Ross, and Lola Smart; and brothers, Jerome Rygg and Joseph Rygg.
Services: Monday, February 13, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead, MN at 10:30 AM with a visitation 1 hour prior to services.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead, MN following services.
