Ryszard was born February 4th, 1952, in Maks, Poland, to Stanislaw and Bronislawa Landowski. He grew up and attended school in Poland.Ryszard was involved in the Solidarity movement since the moment of its inception. He became a president of the Solidarity chapter at his place of work. When the movement was outlawed Ryszard had to hide from the secret police. During the martial law in Poland, Ryszard was still active in the Solidarity movement and printed anti-communist government flyers. He was arrested for those actions and sentenced to 5 years in prison. During his prison term Ryszard married Ewa Maria Sciepura. He became the beloved father to his two stepsons.After 18 months in prison, Ryszard was released. Ryszard and his family were forced to leave Poland because of their political beliefs. They arrived in Moorhead on February 29th, 1984 with three sons. Ryszard's youngest son was born in Fargo. In June, 1984, Ryszard was hired by Moorhead State University as a maintenance worker and stayed there until 2010 when health concerns forced him to retire.Ryszard is survived by his wife, Ewa Landowski of Fargo; parents of Poland; four sons, Zbigniew Sciepura of Brazil, Jacek Wendy Sciepura of Fargo, Krzysztof Greta Landowski of Ft. Rucker, AL, Peter Landowski of Moorhead; one sister, Grazyna Landowski of Poland; five grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Riley, Ilia and Alexander; and by many friends.The family wants to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley for their wonderful care and also all their friends for their love and support.
