Sanford “Sandy” Steen

Sanford “Sandy” Steen, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, in Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead. Sandy was born June 8, 1927, on the family farm near Clinton, MN, to Tina and Agard Hedin. He grew up, attended and graduated from high school in Clinton before entering the Merchant Marines during WWII. Sandy married Joyce Watkins in October of 1947 and together they made their home in Clinton until moving to Moorhead in 1956. Sandy worked for the Minneapolis Tribune and W.W. Walwork before operating his own business. Sandy was a member of the Sons of Norway, Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead and the American Legion. He enjoyed visiting with others and always had a smile on his face, but most of all loved time with family and traveling with his wife, Joyce. He will be dearly missed.

Sandy is survived by his children, Sanford Jr. “Skip” Steen of Moorhead, MN, Rod Steen of Moorhead, MN, Myra Hummel of Burnsville, MN, Brad Steen special friend, Lori of Moorhead, MN, and Vicki Steen of Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren, Jammie Hummel, Miranda Udean, Santana Hummel, Gabe Steen and Jack Steen; and six great-grandchildren, Jacek and Rock Hummel, Myanne Udean, Hallie, Brooklyn and Jett Steen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; son, Terry; parents, Tina and Agard; step-brother, Harry Hedin; and step-sisters, Signe Hans, Helen Boardu and Isabel Bradjord.

Memorial Gathering: Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Memorial Service: Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.
