Texas Country Music lost one of its greatest fans on Independence Day!

Shane was born in Fargo, North Dakota to Bonnie Bitker Swanson and the late David T. Swanson. He had two brothers, Rob and Jason Swanson, three nephews, Steffen Michelle, David and Ryan, and four great-nieces with one on the way! Shane also had that special person in his life Brenda Larson, and MANY, MANY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS THAT ARE NOT MENTIONED!

Shane moved with his family from Moorhead, Minnesota to Edinburg, Texas when he was two years old, where he claimed the title of TEXAN! He was a through and through fan of the Texas lifestyle. Shane may have moved back to Minnesota for a while, but if you asked him, Texas was where he hung his hat.

Shane was a loving soul who always had open arms to give a hug to those he knew, or didn’t know!! He loved the simple things in life like his dog Ty, a game of bingo or just a plain old day of fishing. Oh yeah, and an ice cold beer! He had a knack for making people laugh even with his off-key sense of humor at times. Shane had a kind heart and if they needed someone to talk to, he would be willing to listen and even give some advice at times. Most knew to be careful with that!

In true Texan style, Shane took on his diagnosis of lung cancer with a “Don’t feel sorry for me I got this” attitude. In fact most people didn’t even know he was in a battle with cancer! He just didn’t want everyone worrying about him. Well, Cancer may have won the battle, but Shane won the war! He is in heaven waiting at the door to give everyone a great big HUG and a “Love Ya Dear” to his friends!

Shane will have a graveside service at the Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead, at 3pm Tuesday, July 11th followed by a Celebration of Life dinner 4pm, at the American Legion, 303 30thSt N, Moorhead.

Shane would have told you to not waste money on flowers, but a donation to the local dog shelter in his name that would be appreciated.
